Sandpaper! Yum!

Maybe you remember me telling you about my love of what mommy and daddy call "cardboard" (and the ever-yummy "toilet paper") . If not, you can read all about it in my first post!

Anyway, the big guy has been stuck at home for the last eight weeks because he got "fixed." Yikes! Tonight, he went to that "work" place they like to go and leave my sisters and I at home...

Last time they did that, I found those "toilet paper" treats they had left me, so I started roaming the house looking for those...or some "cardboard" (even though I know I'm not supposed to eat that). I couldn't find any anywhere!

I found something almost as good, though. It was papery, like the cardboard, but it had a rough teture to it. I loved it! I was sooooo sad there wasn't very much of it, but I had a lot of fun chewing on and playing with what little I found. When mommy and the big guy got home, I heard them talking about something called "sandpaper." I'll have to watch out for when they leave me more of that! I liked it!

I like Caves

A good hiding place is always a nice thing to have! Little nooks and crannies you can shimmy into and feel safe...nothing like it.

You see, before I found the great family I have now, I was a dog on the run. Being on your own, I'd search out little places to sleep in...you know, any hole in a storm so to speak.

Anyway, back to today. I like when mommy arranges the furniture such that I have places to curl up in that are like caves. At our last house, I used to curl up in a crate they had used for training my sisters; after we moved, I never saw my crate again. Other great places to hide at the old house were under the coffee table and behind the rocking chair.

In the new house, I've had to make do with new places. Right now, my favorite is behind the corner table where the Big Guy keeps his remote controls and stuff. I can just squeeze in there between the table and the wall. Check out these pictures mommy took of me hanging out in my "cave."

My most favorite is the Big Guy's lap, of course!

Of course, while mommy was snapping those pictures, my little sister got curious and shoved her nose into things, as you can see below...

My little sister, Lexi
"What's that, mommy?"

She used to play with me all the time. We would run circles all over the house, chase each other, play tug of war, drive mommy and the big guy nuts...good times!

She only has one eye now, though, so she doesn't play with me as much as she used to. I've heard mommy talking about her not having any "depth perception" and not being able to really tell where I am all the time. It's OK, though - I still get her to chase me around every once in a while!

Brushing day

It was a normal day, people sitting on the couch, me and my sisters lounging around on the couch or the floor. I saw the big guy start petting my little sister. Darn! I wasn't close enough or else it would have been me! I'm soooooo jealous when they get attention...

Anyway, then mommy starts petting her too! Clumps of fur are just falling off in mommy's hands. Out comes the brush!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I wait sooooo patiently, little stub of a tail wagging fast enough to generate electricity. Me, me, me! Brush me!

Finally, I saw my sister grow tired of being brushed. Yes! My turn! I wiggle my way in between my sister and mommy before my sister has even taken the first step away from her. My turn! Brush me! I do anything to get attention, let me tell you.

Me getting the treatment from mommy. Man, this feels good!

Getting brushed is the best way to get attention, too. It feels so good! Mommy tried to get me to stand up but I was just too relaxed. I rolled right over instead, exposing my belly. More brushing of the chest and belly. This is the greatest! I just have to roll over, loll my tongue out the side of my mouth, splay my legs, wag my little stubby tail, and voila! Belly rub!

I really don't understand my oldest sister. Whenever the brush comes out, she runs and hides. Maybe that's why they had her shaved for the summer! Oh well, they can run all they want - just means more brushing for me, and we all know it's always about me!

Toilet Paper is Fun

Bored, Mad, Hungry...

I was sitting home alone again (that should be one of the last times for a while, the big guy is going to get fixed...Gawd, I hope he's not getting fixed the way I got fixed, poor guy!).

Anyway, I’m home alone with my sisters who just don’t understand me. My oldest sister just lies around a lot; my other sister seems to occupy herself by playing fetch - alone - with her toys.

When I get bored I crave a certain snack... no one else seems to like it, so if I can find it its all mine! It’s the brown papery stuff, usually filled with my mommy's nonsense... sometimes I find square ones and sometimes they are rectangles. I can work the flaps loose...they are really good for chewing on for a while. I think my mommy calls this treat cardboard but sometimes she calls it a box. I get so confused whenever she's talking about it, but she never sounds very happy when she discovers I've made a snack of it!

When my mommy tells me not to eat it, I wont eat that one again. But, oh boy, there is almost always a new one laying around! This time, for sure, it must be for me! My mommy knows how much I like these treats and she is always bringing them home for me!

The other day I was really bored. I couldn’t find any of these that I thought might be safe for me to eat...seemed as if my humans had forgotten to leave some of this "cardboard" laying around for me. How sad...

I did find something new in the peoples potty-room, though. No, not from the round can - I won’t settle for that nastiness (unlike my oldest sister, who seems to think that "trash" stuff is the best). There were these 12 white fluffy rolls wrapped in plastic but with an opening on one end and one roll missing. I swear I could smell some of that cardboard stuff in there! This must be what those humans left for me to snack on until they got home! Yay!

These smell so much like my other yummy snacks. I dragged the whole package into the hallway and ripped at the plastic so I could get to those delectable smelling little rolls of joy (are these what the big guy calls "tootsie rolls"?).

I quickly discovered there was a yummy cardboard center to these. I shredded and unrolled about half of them throughout the hall and bedrooms. It was so very much fun, like a game with a reward inside! I was sure mommy and daddy would be so proud of me for figuring it out...and I didn't touch a single one of those "box" thingies today!

Then the humans got home and fed me my regular food. My mommy stays around and puts me out when I am done (I just can't control myself. If she's not watching, I'm going to grab my sisters' food as soon as they turn their heads!). The big guy went back to change his clothes, heading down the hallway. I heard him call out "What the hell?!?"

Mommy put me out and ran down the hall. As I heard them both start laughing hysterically, I just knew they had discovered that I figured out my rewarding little prize filled game. I waited to be praised, and waited, and waited... but the laughter continued. When I came back in the house I ran around looking everywhere but there was no more of my new little treat goodies around. Where had they all gone? Why didn't they pat my head and tell my how good I was? Shouldn't I get another treat now?

Oh well, I didn’t get scolded so I guess it was ok with them. I just wish I could find some more of those fun, tasty treats laying around. I can’t wait until they get me more of those!
